Toni Sutton, now 40, was found guilty of abusing the now-19-year-old in 2016
The former Crawford High School Spanish teacher is serving two years in prison
On Wednesday the San Diego Unified School District was found negligent in preventing the abuse of the former student, referred to as James Doe
The illicit relationship began in June of 2015 when Doe was only 15 years old
Several teachers were allegedly aware of the relationship months before Sutton was arrested
